About Me

My name is Matthew Eastman and I live in Guelph, Ontario.  I was born in Toronto, ON in 1986 and moved to Ottawa, ON at a very young age.  In 1994, my parents found a permanent home in a small town just thirty minutes south of Ottawa in Kemptville.  I have lived in Kemptville for 15 years until I decided to enroll at the University of Guelph in the turfgrass management program.

I recently graduated from the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Mangement program at the University of Guelph (2011 gradate). Having completed my program, I decided to further my education. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Agriculture (Turfgrass Science) program at the University of Guelph. I decided to further my education for multiple reasons and I am happy to still be in school.

Along with being in school, I am also the Assistant-in-Training at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club (MGCC), in Mississauga, ON, under the Course and Property Manager Adam Zubek – with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with since 2010 when I was an Intern at Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver, BC. I have been at MGCC since April 2011 and will once again be working there again once my winter semester wraps up.

Prior to enrolling in the turfgrass management program in Guelph, I worked at Cedarhill Golf and Country Club in Nepean, ON – a semi-private golf course in one of Ottawa’s premiere living establishments.

Ever since I changed a pin on my first day I fell in love with the golf industry.  I became fascinated with every single job that had to be done on the golf course.  Whether it was weed eating, cutting greens or digging up irrigation heads, I cherished every minute of work.

Fun facts:

- I was an engineering student from 2004-2006 at Carleton University.
- Growing up I wanted to be a landscape architect.
- My favourite job on the golf course is hand watering.

I will be writing blogs about the turf industry and other miscellaneous subjects and I hope you can take a few minutes out of your day to read them.
